Vibrance Celebrates Autism Awareness Certificate

A Short Breaks Service run by a leading social care charity is celebrating as it receives an autism awareness certificate.

Green Lodge, run by Vibrance, provides 24 hour short break accommodation, personal and nursing, for adults with complex healthcare needs and severe learning disabilities.

Green Lodge has recently achieved the bronze level of autism awareness, awarded by RAAR, a Sycamore Trust project, which included completing an autism accessibility study.

RAAR, set up in June 2014, is a London Borough of Redbridge funded project aiming to raise and promote Autism Awareness. RAAR visits local services in the borough to carry out free accessibility evaluations and identifies the level of understanding that is already in place.

Green Lodge provides an autism-friendly environment and offers service users a range of social and leisure activities such as visits to the theatre, bowling, and day trips to country parks and the seaside.

Vibrance supports over 850 adults throughout London and the South East with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs, offering a range of community services, low-support housing, nursing and care homes, short breaks, supported employment and self-directed services.

Chris Gillbanks, CEO of the Sycamore Trust said: “Sycamore Trust UK has been supported by London Borough of Redbridge to provide autism awareness training for the last three years. The Autism Ambassador/RAAR project recently won a National Compact Innovation Award for the project.

“We are delighted that Vibrance has signed up to our programme and have achieved a bronze award. We hope their success will encourage others to take part.”

Rachel Williams, nurse team leader said: “It is fantastic that we have received the initial bronze level of autism awareness and have built up a partnership with RAAR. With their guidance and support we strive to achieve gold level at Green Lodge.”

Vibrance Director of Operations, Peter Chamberlain said: “We’re delighted to have achieved the bronze level of autism awareness at Green Lodge.

“At Vibrance we understand the importance of specialist care for individuals with autism and that’s why our staff have specialist training to ensure all our service users have the best possible support to meet their needs.

“We are investing in the development of our assessment and support planning services to be able to offer support to a wider group of people with autism in the community. We want to offer the highest standard of service, creating a life of choice and opportunities.”
