Moving on Up Group

Tower Hamlets

We will support people to enjoy range of activities in their local community according to individual needs and wishes.

Based in Bow Church, Bow Common, the Moving On UP Group (MOUG) provides support to help people become more independent at home or in the community.

Our aim is always to help promote and maintain a healthy standard of living and to help people achieve their goals. We encourage the use of public transport where possible to increase confidence and personal skills, and we regularly support people to take part in physiotherapy, rebound and hydrotherapy sessions.

Being based in a community hall, our service users have a real opportunity to meet people and integrate into the local community, whilst still being supported by our experienced staff.

Our community-based activities include supporting people with money handling, promoting computer and social media skills, and enjoying new experiences – but most of all having fun.

We attend weekly drama sessions, providing the opportunity for our service users to develop their social and therapeutic skills. We also actively promote Asdan qualifications, which gives learners the skills needed for employment and daily living.

Our philosophy is to encourage people to make their own informed choices about which activities they would like to be involved in.

Some of the positive outcomes our group members have achieved have ranged from regularly attending gym sessions after never before setting foot inside a gym; one group member who was supported to use social media to enable her to attend a school reunion; another who gained enough IT skills to enable her to build her own webpage; and one person who was supported into achieve his dream of moving into independent living, after previously living with his family.
